OneOncology

Letter from Dr. Davey Daniel

Dear Colleague,

At OneOncology, I often emphasize a core mission of Clinical Affairs: to equip our partner practice physicians with tools that allow them to do what they value most — spend more time with patients. Time to talk, listen, understand their needs, and collaborate on a care plan that best aligns with their goals and values.

In 2024, I’m proud to say we’ve made significant progress achieving that mission for our physician partners.

This year’s annual report highlights the tools and processes we’ve developed to eliminate critical—but time consuming—tasks from physicians’ to-do lists, creating more opportunities for meaningful patient interactions.

CLINICAL TOOL DEVELOPMENT

In-House MIPS Support

OneOncology’s Oncology Quality Hub is approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as both a Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) and a Qualified Registry (QR). Meeting these rigorous federal standards allows us to collect clinical data and report Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) measures on behalf of our partner clinicians and practices. This removes a key administrative burden, freeing up practices to focus on patient care while ensuring essential reimbursement requirements are met.

Provider Messaging for Precision Therapies (ProMPT)

As targeted therapies continue to transform oncology, patients increasingly undergo Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) testing to guide treatment eligibility. Historically, accessing these critical test results in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) has been cumbersome and time intensive. ProMPT now solves this challenge with one-click access to somatic and germline testing results, FDA-approved targeted therapies, guideline-driven recommendations for additional testing, and a direct line of communication to the Clinical Affairs team.

Next Generation Physician Leadership

Strong physician leadership has always been central to OneOncology’s success. However, many physicians lack formal business and leadership training—developing these critical skills instead through experience and trial and error during our limited spare time.

To bridge this gap, we are developing formalized training programs that enable seasoned leaders to mentor the next generation of physician leaders. By sharing lessons learned—both successes and failures—our goal is to strengthen the leadership capabilities of emerging physician leaders. In independent medicine, the stakes are high, and it is our responsibility to equip future leaders with the business acumen they need to thrive.

Workforce Shortage

The growing oncology workforce shortage presents ongoing challenges as patient populations rise while the number of practicing oncologists decline. Addressing this reality means we must prioritize efficiency and build strong clinical teams to support patient care. Many of our practices already rely on Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), but we recognize that oncology requires specialized training. To address this, OneOncology has developed formal, accessible APP training programs that reduce the burden on individual practices to prepare new APPs. These programs leverage the expertise of experienced APPs, fostering mentorship and ongoing learning. By continually evolving this curriculum, we aim to ensure APPs are well-prepared to provide exceptional care, helping to ease the workload for physicians across our partner practices.

Looking Ahead

I want to express my deep gratitude to our talented Clinical Affairs team for their unwavering commitment to supporting our physician partners. Likewise, I want to recognize the large number of physicians, APPs, nurses, and clinical teams within our practices who donate their time to lead OneCouncil, as well as our Disease Groups and committees. Thank you for working together to build a stronger network by learning from and teaching each other.

While I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished in 2024, I’m even more excited about the future. Together, we will continue to innovate, creating tools that reduce physician burdens and, most importantly, allow for more time with the patients our partner practices serve.

Sincerely,

Davey Daniel, MD
